Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with senior Oakwell engineers and its health system clients to accomplish the following:
- Evaluate and benchmark sites with an aim to reduce existing energy consumption/carbon emissions
- Conceptualize and implement a 10-year sustainability and decarbonization plan in collaboration with senior Oakwell engineers and the health system client/owner
- Reduce energy costs
- Renew infrastructure and drive electrification efforts
- Align sustainability efforts with client’s facility real estate master plan
- Create sustainable MEP building construction standards
Primary Responsibilities
- Evaluate existing site energy utilization, carbon emissions and benchmark against similar facilities
- Audit, analyze and document facilities and existing MEP systems
- Review existing condition drawings
- Collaborate with facility staff to acquire information about plant operations and system deficiencies
- Retro-commission existing mechanical systems including central plant, air handling, terminal equipment and energy management systems
- Develop multi-phased return on investment ECMs (Energy Conservation Measures) that will reduce site energy consumption and operating costs
- Estimate savings using custom energy modeling software
- Produce detailed reports on existing facility conditions, recommendations, cost savings and ROI
- Complete technical assistance studies as required by utility companies for efficiency incentives
- Present Oakwell’s findings and recommendations to clients
- Prepare detailed scope of work narratives, EMS points list and EMS sequence of operations for pricing by contractors and vendors
- Prepare scaled drawings and specifications for installation and modifications of mechanical systems
- Lead construction meetings for the implementation of ECMs
- Commission new systems and control recommendations
- Develop sustainable MEP building standards for client
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5 to 7 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer
- Have or be working towards a Professional Engineering License
- Availability to travel, as needed (20%)
- Competency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD software
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Facilitate the creation, implementation and use of machine learning and AI tools to streamline internal workflows
- Experience working in a client facing environment
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and eQUEST
